| The No. 2 doubles duo of the Crete High girls’ tennis team won a match at the state meet Thursday in Lincoln to highlight the Cardinals’ post-season effort. Alex Edwards and Tristan Shaw took a 6-0, 6-2 first round decision over Callie Wanek and Brittany McGregor of Omaha Gross, marking Crete’s only win of the tourney. Edwards and Shaw lost to third-seeded Emily Knuth and Anna Knuth of Omaha Duchesne in the second round. In No. 1 doubles, Jeana Rezac and Kellie Parks fell 6-4, 6-0 to Rosalia Terrazas and Jessica Medrano-Angel of Lexington. Crete’s Carissa Moore lost to ninth seed Madilyn Pickering of Elkhorn in No. 1 singles, while the Cards’ Haley Schmidt fell to Hastings’ Bailey Christy 6-0, 6-3 in No. 2 singles. “I was happy with the effort of all our girls and thought we showed great improvement throughout the year,” Crete coach Josh Siske said. “I am looking forward to our girls putting in work in the off-season and improving.”
